Drinks aimed at health beyond hydration
We developed an innovative product concept and back it up with scientific data gained in a large panel of privately owned dogs and cats.
Our motivator
ViaVet Labs was founded by animal nutritionists and veterinary scientists to tackle the universal issue of insufficient water intake in pets. Both cats and dogs generally prefer to consume water via their feed and they don’t have a strong sense of thirst to compensate feeding regimes of predominantly dry kibbles. This dilemma results in wide-spread health complications, such as increased strain on liver and kidneys or poor gut health.
Available solutions
We are not the first to recognize this problem. Liquid complementary feed products are available on the petfood market. To make them attractive for the animals, they contain meat or broth, which limits their maximum daily consumption according to the calory or other nutrient content. Additionally, just as with snacks and treats, the amount of the regular food should be adjusted to balance the nutrient intake from these liquid feeds. Hence, the use of such products as a permanent tool to increase water intake is not without challenges.
A new approach
Water-based, zero-calory, vegan flavored drinks
to tempt even cat and dog gourmets
Nothing short of this is what we aspired to develop. The first part, water-based, zero-calorie and vegan flavors, was made possible by an excellent team of flavorists. But to ensure broad acceptance of our creations, we needed our testing panel to reflect the diversity of the pet population. The large number of pet owners who answered to our product testing call emphasizes how pressing the need for our innovation is. We now count with a large permanent panel of cats and dogs who provide their honest feedback. This large data pool allows us to rank our flavor portfolio to maximize acceptance rate. We now have a large portfolio of flavors as well as functional ingredients to design and customize palatable, vegan drinks with a range of health support capabilities.
